I'm going to start simple and easy. I've always loved Proverbs (I have a very analytical mind) and how it's short pity passages speak volumes of truth. Sometimes they make sense; sometimes they are just cool to read. There are 31 Proverbs so I've always just read the one that matches the current day of the month. I wonder if God actually planed it that seeing as our current "day counting" scheme was invented by the Romans¹ or if it was a coincidence?

I guess 27.14 is the verse that most stands out to me today.

If you wake your friend in the early morning
by shouting "Rise and shine!"
It will sound to him
more like a curse than a blessing.

I've got three children and every morning I have to wake them up to get ready for school. They really don't like being woken up; even after having 8+ hours of sleep. I can see it in their faces and hear it in the voices as I wake them up. They really see it as more of a curs than a blessing to be waking up. I'm sure they also just love going to school too.

But as I reread this verse I'm thinking that it's not talking about the situation I just mentioned. It sounds more like where you're fast asleep and your friend comes in a wakes you up with that ultra cheerful, almost unnatural cheerfulness. It's not the fact that your friend woke you but how they did it; the fact that they used such emphases, such an enthusiasms thats not natural. This I have experienced at work.

Every now and then when I get to work I'm not really awake or the whole waking/getting ready experience with the kids was not pleasant and left me in a foul mood. Then comes in that coworker that seems to always been ultra cheerful and starts to smother you with "love" and "blessings". All I can think is "Please go away, you're not helping". It's true what the ultra cheerful person considers a blessing to give can sometimes be too much and actually be taken as a curse. It's not that what the ultra cheerful person is doing is wrong it's just too much at the wrong time. If you try to water your new law with a fire hose you're going to wash all of the grass way. Sometimes a small trickle of water does more good than a blasting fire hose.

I'm trying something new. Not sure how long it's going to last but I'm willing to give it a try anyway.

This blog is now going to be a place for me to write down thoughts and observation of the time I spend conversing with God. I know you're probably thinking why would you want to put something so personal on a public forum. Well I don't plan on putting down my most personal thoughts but the ones that should be shared with the rest of the world.

Just a little warning. I never did that good in Mrs Garrett's English class. I think I was her most difficult student. So my grammar, spelling and writing might be a little off. Which is another reason for my writing. I need the practice.

During past couple of weeks I have had to "kick" my oldest child off the family computer. Every time my child is on the computer they are chatting, reading email and talking on the phone all at the same time. I know that this only the beginning too; its going to get worse. My Dream

On the night November 7th, 1998 I had a dream that woke me with terror. When I woke up I was covered in sweat and shaking. I was more scared than I had ever been from any other dream. I quickly got a piece of paper and a pen and started to jot down what I remembered from my dream. The following is what I wrote that night.

I looked up in the sky and saw what looked like a meteorite coming towards the earth. It was coming very fast and got very large very quickly. As the meteorite came towards the earth it changed and looked like a globe. It was green and blue like our earth. Next the meteorite turned brown and all cracked like dried or burnt mud. As it entered the atmosphere it started to glow in the middle and get smaller. I ducked under something and looked away because I was scared. Next there was long and bright flash of light and everything seemed to rumble. No one seemed to care but me. I felt like this was it, the world was over. I was franticly trying to get my family together so they would be safe but no one would listen to me. I noticed that I was in my parents house in Texas. Only my daughter Tabitha, my wife Zibby and my mother Nancy were there. It looked like the local Hispanics had overrun the backyard with a garden. The backside of the brick fence was gone. The hispanics did seem to care about what had just happened because they were trying to cover their garden with straw. Next it started to snow or what looked like snow but it was not cold. My mother said that it had to have been a natural nuclear explosion. Then I woke up in a cold sweat.

Today I witnessed something cool.

My second child is starting kindergarden this fall. She had received a letter from her new teacher with her first homework assignment. The homework was something simple like answering questions about her and who she was and what she liked. My daughter was very excited and wanted to answer all the questions writing down the answers herself. What was cool was watching her older sister, who is 10, help her write each letter and number to answer the questions. Her sister had her get a blank piece of paper out and practice on that before the using the provided paper. Her sister was very patient and let her even make a few mistakes then gave her some advice on what to do different the next time.

I read about it in Monday's USA Today and was instantly hooked. I brought home the game and showed my wife. We spent most of the night just finishing one game. It's simple yet requires lots of mental energy to piece it all together.

It took me 36 minutes and 34 seconds. I was the 382nd person to cross the finish line.

It was a beautiful day for a run. The sun was warm and the breeze was cool. Not at all like last year, hot and muggy. I started off by myself at the back of the pack and slowly moved forward. After about half way through the race I stared to keep pace with some nice women who run the race together every year. Running with someone is always easier than by yourself. I ran the race about 4 minutest faster that last year.

Its stories like this that really anger me. They make my blood boil. This person was over in Iraq to help the Iraqi people with humanitarian work. She wasn’t there to fight a war or to try to talk Sadam into changing his mind about being a dictator. She was there to lend a helping had. And what do these Insurgent Muslim Terrorist do? They kidnap her, use her for propaganda and then kill her.

But as I write this I am reminded what Jesus said about loving our enemies. Whether or not this lady was a Christian she was definitely doing the work of Jesus Christ. My prayers go out to her family.

I have to start writing more! So I'll start tonight at 11:00 pm, when I should go to sleep. Now I need a good subject to write about? How about this morning?

On my way to work this morning I was listening to Imus, like I always do, and he was interviewing Jim Lehrer. Apparently Jim is an avid fiction writer and he has just finished a new book, “Flying Crows”. The book is about these two bums that escaped from an asylum and have been living in a train depot for the past 60 years. The story is based on some truth and Jim said that he had fun researching places and people for the book. His wife, Kate, was also being interviewed because she just published her first book, “Confessions of a Bigamist”. Imus was his usual rude self but the interview made me think, “Maybe I could write a book?” Nah! I don’t even like to write.

Weather I like to write or not I do believe that I am getting to a point in my life where I need to start putting down more of my thoughts on paper, or the Internet. I have started many journals but they all have only a few entries and that’s it. I definitely like this blog thing; it makes it easy to publish short paragraphs about anything. And I like typing in MS Word to fix all of my spelling mistakes.

Ok here goes nothing. This is my first Blog. I think that this will be a good spot for me to save my thought for the whole world to see.

Last night I went over to a friend's house to help them burn a DVD. When I got there I couldn't do anything with their computer. It was full of SPAM. Not email Spam but popup Spam. Every time I would bring up Internet Explorer the screen will fill up with windows that I didn't want. It took forever for the web browser to go the page that I wanted. So I started investigating.

GAIN and Gator suck! The only ones that gain from the GAIN network is the publishers of the GAIN network. When every you install one of their little apps it takes over you system showing you loads of unwanted ads when ever you try to access the Internet. Once I removed all of the GAIN apps the system started to act a little saner.

I was at my friend's house for four hours and spent 90% of that time just cleaning up their system. It really bugs me that there are people on the Internet that do nothing but exploit the ignorance of others. I don't have a solution yet but some day I will.
